Before His crucifixion, Jesus broke bread at supper with His disciples and said to them, “This is my body, which is given for you.” This was symbolic of His body which was broken for our sake Taking the communion marks our oneness with Him. He was crucified in our place. Now, when we “break” bread, we’re actually celebrating His finished work—His vicarious sacrifice on the Cross. Jesus also said, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me” (1 Corinthians 11:25 RSV). His blood was shed so that sin wouldn’t have any power or control over you. Your new life is a result of the new covenant; you’re what He got for His sacrifice! So, the next time you take the Communion, remember these things and declare them in prayer, thanking God for all that Jesus has achieved for you. Let them create a new consciousness within you and propel you to experience the higher life in Christ.
