The Bible says “Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.” That exactly tells us the significance of water baptism. When you are dipped into that water…baptism is an answer of a conscience to God. It’s a testimony of your faith in the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
When the Minister of God dips you into that water, you are likened unto His death and unto His burial; so he dips you in so you are buried with Him by baptism into death and then when he brings you out of the water, he says “…like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father…” so you now walk in newness of life; so water baptism is significant.
In the New Testament, we are baptized unto Jesus Christ so this is very important [Romans 6:4]. Now remember, when the children of Israel went out of Egypt, the Egyptians went after them and what was the final separation from Egypt? It was when they were baptized unto Moses in the sea – when they went through the water and came out on the other side.
The Egyptians tried to do the same and they were buried in the water; they all died. So, baptism is the sign of your final separation from the world. Egypt was a type of the world, and you are finally separated from the world so it’s like a kind of salvation but not the salvation of taking away your sins but the salvation of a good conscience.
Jesus said to us to baptize them when they believe in Jesus, when people come to Christ, when sinners come to Christ, they should be baptized. It says in the name of the Father, in the name of the Son, in the name of the Holy Spirit; what name is that? The name of Jesus! So, they must be baptized; so, every Christian should understand that it is important.
Getting baptized is an act of obedience to the Words of Jesus. He told us to baptize those who believe in Him, so every Christian who has not been baptized must get the opportunity to be baptized. Go to your Pastor and ask to be baptized. If you would attend a church and they see that you are Christian, they will baptize you.
