I am a stranger in the earth: hide not thy commandments from me (Psalm 119:19).
The opening verse was King David talking, and he was wise enough to know he was a pilgrim in the earth. His conclusion spelt out something remarkable about his yearning as he spoke to God: “…hide not thy commandments from me.” That means “Don’t hide your Word from me.”
Why was David so passionate about the Word of God? Let’s read Psalm 119:105: “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” He understood the power and impact of the Word of God. He knew the Word will help him; it was a lamp to give light, and a light to illuminate his path. He knew it wasn’t the “buying” of the Bible that gives light, or the hearing or the preaching that gives light, but the entrance of God’s Word; that’s what gives understanding to the simple (Psalm 119:130). So, it’s not about listening to sermons upon sermons; if the Word doesn’t get into your spirit, it’ll not give you light.
The earth is covered with spiritual darkness, but you need the light—the light of God’s Word—to navigate your way and chart your course victoriously through life. Be passionate about the Word. Let the Word guide and direct your steps! God’s Word is the light that shows you what reality (truth) is; that’s what reveals the real you. Through the light of God’s Word, you see the beautiful things God has deposited in your spirit. Under His light, you’ll see that you’re more than a conqueror, and that nothing is impossible to you.
There’s so much glory and beauty inside you, but you can only see these good things under the light of God’s Word. God’s Word is the true light. As you study and meditate on it, your path in life will be flooded with light, and you’ll keep growing from glory to glory.
PRAYER:
Dear Father, I thank you for the glory of your Word. Your Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light that illuminates my path; thus, I see and apprehend the greater levels of glory you’ve ordained for me, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
