“…stir up (rekindle the embers of, fan the flame of, and keep burning) the [gracious] gift of God, [the inner fire] that is in you by means of the laying on of my hands [a] with those of the elders at your ordination].” (2 Timothy 1:6 AMP)
In Psalm 85:6 the psalmist cried out to the Lord: “Wilt thou not revive us again: that thy people may rejoice in thee?” Also he said in Psalm 138:7 “Though I walk in the midst of trouble, thou wilt revive me…” David, like other great prophets in the Old Testament, usually would look up to God to revive them in times of discouragement and despair.
However, in the New Testament, we don’t pray or cry to God for revival; we are revived from within! Acts 1:8 says, “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you…” So it’s no use looking up to heaven for God to send down revival, for the Lord of revival the Holy Spirit lives in the quarters of your heart.
Jude 1:20 shows that when you speak in other tongues, you charge up, build up, overhaul, refresh and revive yourself: “But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost.” You stir the power of God that’s resident in your spirit as you pray in other tongues. There’s an automatic conversion of that latent power of the Holy Spirit in you to an active, lively and dynamic force. Praise God!
