“Thou
believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and
tremble. But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?”
(James 2:19-20).
Many people mistake believing for faith; but
believing is not faith, and faith is not believing. When you receive God’s Word
into your heart and believe what it says, that’s just the first step; there
must be corresponding action to your believing.
Romans 10:10 says, “For wi th the heart man believeth
unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” So,
when you heard the Gospel and were convinced in your heart to believe Jesus
died for you, you were made right with God. But that didn’t suffice for your
salvation; there had to be the corresponding action of confessing the Lordship
of Jesus over your life! It was that confession that catapulted you into
salvation. Hallelujah!
This
principle is the same for every other aspect of your life as a Christian. You
must not stop at merely believing what the Word says; you also must act on the
Word. Faith leaps on the Word; it believes the Word and acts accordingly. “Even
so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.” (James 2:17)
