“Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think anything as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God” (2 Corinthians 3:5)
The
Amplified version renders our opening verse thus: “Not that we are fit, qualified and sufficient in
ability of ourselves, to form personal judgments or to claim or count anything
as coming from us, but our power and ability and sufficiency are from God.”
Therefore, we’re to know and recognize God as our qualification, competence and
strength, and not have confidence in our physical abilities, knowing that He
has endued us with power from on high.
This
understanding informed David’s mentality when as a stripling he confronted and
defeated the great Goliath of Gath. Conscious of God’s ability at work in him,
he looked at Goliath and said, “…You
come against me with a sword, and spear and javelin, but I come against you in
the Name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have
defied” (1 Samuel 17:45 NIV). How important it is that we live and
walk every day in the consciousness that we are fully kitted with God’s glory
and power because we function in His Name!
Our
sufficiency is a God-sufficiency! The power and ability by which we function
are of God; that makes it unlimited! That means there’s no limit to how much
you can achieve and how far you can go on your journey of success, because the
power at work in you is of God!
