I have discovered that the one major trait that sets billionaires apart from others is their ideologies and philosophies. Billionaires think differently from the rest of the world. Their view of the world is very unique and many times people may even think they’re crazy or something. These ideas and philosophies is how they disrupt industries and start whole new things that others have not even dreamt of yet. Billionaires take the term “Think Big” to a whole new level and let me inspire you with a few thoughts at the billion level in hope that I may inspire the passion for the billion level in someone out there.
1. Solving Problems
There’s no doubt that there are plenty of problems on earth but if you think about it every single problem is a great opportunity for an entrepreneur to an amazing business at the same time. This is because the best way to create a great company is to create a company that can help a billion people or solve a large problem.
So if you want to make a billion naira, all you have to do is to solve a 10 billion naira problem. What are these 10 billion naira problem? Education, affordable health care, clean water, diagnosing rare diseases, and so on. If you can solve anyone of these problems, it’s a multi billion naira opportunity and some of them are even trillion naira problems. What you have to do is to start looking at how to solve them
2. What Is Success?
Success is never about how much money you have in the bank. It’s always about how many lives you’ve been able to impact positively and the more lives you’re able to impact positively, the more successful you are. Secondly, your self worth is about what you create and not what you own. You can own a lot but if you have created nothing you still are worth nothing. The only way you know that someone has become successful is that the day they become very humble is the day they become truly successful. If you have an oater of arrogance in you then you’re still trying to prove something to yourself or someone else.
3. The Real Heroes of Society
In some sense, we all get a tremendous amount of pleasure when you start something or create something out of nothing. An entrepreneur starts a company because he believes he can go and change the way things are being done, he can change the way people live their lives, change the trajectory of how humanity is going to move forward in the future. Once he has that dream as an entrepreneur because his job is not just to have a dream but to actually go out and do it. And the reason he can go out and do it is because he believes he can create something. It is a great feeling to experience and billionaires incentivise this trait in their lives and in others.
The principle is this: the behaviour you want is the behaviour you incentivise. Because they truly believe that entrepreneurship is important in society, they make problem solvers the heroes.
It is important that everyone understands that the heroes you make are the heroes you create. But today in society our heroes are athletes, actors, musicians but these are not our heroes. But our heroes are really the entrepreneurs, scientists and other who solve problems because at the end of the day, these are the ones that will change society.
4. How to Really Move Society Forward
There’s no problem big enough that innovation and entrepreneurship can’t solve and they have to come together. The great minds that have amazing research can’t go out and change the world and the great entrepreneurs who know how to take it to the market can’t do anything except they have the research. So bringing them together is how you move the society forward.
5. The Entrepreneur Mindset
I think that an entrepreneur is not a person who starts a company. The entrepreneur is actually someone who solves problems. People are really good at talking about the problems and asking why didn’t someone fix it but ultimately do nothing after that. But there are some really good people who go out and say “I might have a solution for this problem”. Call them visionaries, or whatever you want but there’s only one type of person who wakes up and says “what can I do about that? Am going to go out and fix this.” It’s this group of people who actually go out and do it who are the entrepreneurs. And it doesn’t matter whether you’re working in a company you’re an entrepreneur. People call them intrepreneur but at the end of the day, you’re an entrepreneur. If you see a problem and solve the problem, you’re an entrepreneur.
